Red Ribbon
Week
October 5th
– October 9th
Red Ribbon Week
is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in
the country. This year Blue Oak Elementary will
celebrate Red Ribbon Week at Blue Oak October 5th
through October 9th. Each day of the
week, we will have a different theme to draw attention
to this important campaign.
Monday:
My future is brighter without drugs (wear sunglasses)
Tuesday: Use
your head; don't do drugs (crazy hair or hats)
Wednesday: Turn
your back on drugs (wear your shirt or clothes
backwards)
Thursday: Proud
to be drug free (wear red/assembly) –
BMX Riders Assembly!!!!
Friday: Team up
against drugs (wear your favorite team jersey or shirt)
The teachers will also be speaking to
the kids throughout the week about this, again
reinforcing being Drug Free.
International
Walk To School Day...This
will be the 2nd year for Blue Oak to participate in the
International
Walk to School Day
on
Wednesday, Oct. 7,
2009.
This is a chance for us to
encourage our kids to help the environment, improve
their fitness, find safe walking/riding routes to
school, and to simply have some fun! Gather your
friends in your neighborhood, put on some comfy walking
shoes, and have fun walking or biking to school.
If you live too far to walk all the way, gather a few
blocks from the school and walk in. All we ask is
that the kids don't start within the school grounds.
Water and snacks will be provided as the kids come in
the front of the school.
The kids did a fantastic job in our
second annual participation of the International Walk to
School Day on October 7th! We had 340
participants total that either walked or rode their
bikes in. This is up from 236 participants from last
year! Two names were drawn for the pedometers; and the
following classes were awarded KidzArt classes for
having the highest numbers in their grade level:
